You will need a little bit of programming to automate the process you've tried by hand: Find the location of the new postcode. Measure the distance from the reference location to the new location. Save that value.
Or if you pre-load your data into MapPoint as pushpins, you could use my MileCharter product to do this (see links below). As well as straight line distances, this would also be able to find route distances amongst other things.
