    2006 MapPoint Symbols 297-301 Help!

I got a new PC here at work and they loaded 2013 MapPoint, and the symbols are less than desirable. I used to work with 2006 a lot and need to create a few maps outlining hospitals in different territories. I used to love using the map symbols they added in 2006 from 297-301 to denote different types of hospitals (i.e. Critical Access, Community, and IDNs). I have failed to get these in pushpin updates across the web and wanted to see if anyone could attach the extraction from their files for the ambulance and three hospital symbols. It's the ambulance, the red & white hospital symbol, the blue on white hospital symbol, and the white on blue hospital symbol. Thank you in advance for your help!!

Re: 2006 MapPoint Symbols 297-301 Help!

    Welcome to the forums captaindawg!

Have you checked in this download already?
Download Pushpin images for Streets and Trips or MapPoint 2009 from Official Microsoft Download Center
I just extracted and it looks like they only go up to 256... well that doesn't help you.

I seem to remember they originally posted an incomplete set of the MP06 symbols, but had gone back and posted a corrected, full set? maybe not.

In any case, I don't have MapPoint 2006 installed, but there is a round-about way of extracting the Symbols images.

First, drop a Pushpin on a blank map. Now in the Legend, set dataset's symbol to be the first symbol you want.

Now, Copy/Paste the layer in the legend.

Set the new dataset's symbol to be the second symbol you want.

etc. see attached. Note that this screenshot shows the MapPoint 2011 symbols, I know you actually want the MP06 symbols.

    symbols.jpg

Now, save the map as HTML or Save as Web Page including the legend.

This will save a directory with individual PNG files for each of the symbols.

Now, PNG image files can't be imported as custom symbols, so you need to convert them to BMP files before importing.

So, the process I mentioned is obviously manageable for snagging 4 or 5 symbols out of MapPoint 2006, but could start to get to be a pain if you want to get all of them (lots of clicking).

But this could all be automated in a batch process to extract and convert. Let me know if anyone wants this and I can install MP06 and work on it.

    hope this helps!

    Thanks Eric

I did the link you provided a while back and as you found out it only went to 256. I was just hoping to find somewhere that someone had pulled out the images from MP06 on those map symbols and zipped them into a file. I did find a hospital logo and the flags logo in the back logs of the forum. Great find...just was hoping to complete my MP06 symbol/pushpin file. Thank you again for all your help!

Re: 2006 MapPoint Symbols 297-301 Help!

I communicated with Captain Dawg separately and he shared the locations where he found the symbols ---

Also, I have now posted the eighty 2006 symbols missing from the Microsoft Download in an article here --

    Fun stuff!

Newbie question. Everyone in my office has large symbols. Mine are very small. Is there a toggle or way to resize them? I am on MapPoint 2006.
