I don't know much about 3D modeling, but I wonder if Google Sketchup could be used to create models for Virtual Earth? formats are meant to be converted

What is the output from Sketchup?

If KML, then yes - Microsoft have recently added KML support to Virtual Earth. It may not be complete support, but then Google Maps doesn't completely support KML either! (it was developed for Google Earth)

I don't know what Dassault gave up if anything (you saw Gates and the CEO of Dassault together on the home page of MP2Kmag.com recently), but I hope they find the result of their partnership with Microsoft positive...
