Mappoint flexibility

Hi Forum,
I am from the world of MapInfo and would like to understand if Mappoint has some real limitations as compared to MapInfo/Arcview. I am not talking about 3-D rendering and other exotic features but basic stuff.
For example: Let us say that I have a business supplying hotels in Switzerland and Austria. I would like to add my data to these records in the POI layer of the TeleAtlas sourced European maps in order to do sales analyses.
Now in MapInfo I would select this type of record (Hotel) by some code that there must be in the data record and then select Hotels for Austria and Switzeland by those within the country borders (polygons) and then I would save this result. I would then reformat record field to contain my data fields and update records with my data. Another way would be to export this file to ASCII or Excel (with X and Y coords) and do the reformatting and data input outside MapPoint and then reimport updated file.
Can I do this in Mappoint also considering that the TeleAtlas sourced maps maybe limit data extraction in some way???

You can't work with the POI data as you describe, you have to have your own layers of hotels.

That said, you can Extract the POI's and then turn around and use them in your own layer :-)

I'd recommend to get a trial copy and start playing around with it. You will find there are definitely limitations compared to MapInfo, primarily MapPoint does not have a built-in table editors, you always have to go external to MapPoint and use Access or Excel and then link or import the data into MapPoint.
