Problem is solved! Seems that the windows files that are being used by mappoint were corrupt, because of a number of errors during the first installation of the program. We did actually uninstall mappoint, but that did not solve the problem. We had to reconfigure the computer totally, and install it all over again from the beginning. After that the problem was solved!
