Re: Error with Multiple Symbol Maps

I had the same problem today and found that if your column includes more info than the street address, it will not pin with multiple symbols. For Ex: If you column includes street number and name, city, state, and zip...it will not pin usin multiple pins. Using Excel, I was able to convert "text to columns" and created a column for |number and name| city| state| and |zip|.

When I re-imported the information, I was able to pin using multiple symbols. Purely guesswork on my part, but it seemed to work.

When I try to import one of the problem locations by itself, I can't complete the Data Mapping Wizard. I select Multiple Symbol and hit Next. I select the data field I want to map. When I select "Street Address" under "Show the data by" and hit Next, I get the following error:

Data in the field or column you have chosen does not exist or is not appropriate for the selected geographic unit. Select a different field or column, or geographic unit, and try again.

What I don't understand is that if I go back and select Pushpin Map, the address plots without a problem. It appears the geographic unit selection is causing the error, but I don't know why.

Any help would be appreciated.
