Question Add item to MapPoint right menu

While reading this article by Richard Marsden: "A Simple Add-in for MapPoint API Beginners"

    found here:

A Simple Add-in for MapPoint API Beginners - MapPoint Articles - MP2K Magazine

I started to explore how I might add a new item to the MapPoint Right click context menu.

As MapPoint users know, this menu changes based on the context of the user events going on.

I would like to know if anyone knows how to programmatically change this menu (I just want to ADD to it, I don't expect we can take built in MP features away from it).

I'm using VB6, but I expect this solution will not be germane to a specific language so much as to understanding the behind the scenes MapPoint object model.

And double thanks to Richard Marsden (WinWaed iirc) for authoring this article, Microsoft should just send him a big fat check for promoting the expansion of MapPoint WAY beyond what it can do out of the box.

Thanks to Eric Frost as well for posting this, to me, it's the direction I'd like to head with MapPoint (whenever I actually get time from existing contracts !). Add-in's to MP can really bring forward powerful flexibility to MapPoint users.

If anyone has any thoughts on adding to right click menu - I'd like to call a proc from my Add-in ideally when a certain right click menu item is accessed.

Thanks in advance for even reading my question too !

Re: Add item to MapPoint right menu

    Thanks for the compliments!

You can't add to the right click menu, but you can override it.
Ie. you can tracp mouse clicks, and on the right click "do something interesting".
My MPSuperShape add-in displays a little window full of buttons near the mouse position - ie. a "fake" menu. This has my own options and not MapPoint's.

Of course a user might not want this, and might prefer to use the usual right click menu. Therefore I have a switch in the program to activate which menu is to be displaye. The switch is controlled by entries that have been added to the Tools menu.

Re: Add item to MapPoint right menu

Thanks for insights Richard. That's up the alley of what I'd resort to with no other options - might work.

I am about to post a question on add-in's that you might have further insights on...

I'd include it here, but might be best for the board to give it its own topic.

    thanks again though.
