Any fundamental change of MapPoint programming model?

We have been waiting so long for the new MapPoint release. Now MapPoint 2009 is finally available. Does any one know if 2009 has any fundamental change in programming model? It will be very disppointed if we still have to deal with the old ActiveX object. I checked MapPoint homepage on Microsoft site, nothing regarding this so far. Any idea? Do we expect too much?

Hi,

I don't have it installed yet, but you can be sure it is backward compatible. Probably some new things will be there also.

Re: Any fundamental change of MapPoint programming model?

Nope not even that.
I have yet to see any changes in the API. The object model has had its version number to 16 (which makes sense: 2006 was 13).

The help file does detail some minor api changes, but these are actually changes that were introduced in 2006. The person preparing the help file did a "non-intelligent find & replace".
