bad routes using ferries

NB all locations are in UK. If I ask mp2004 (european) for a route from Red Bank Road in Blackpool to Peterborough it returns a route that goes via ferry to belfast, another ferry to scotland, across scotland, down the M6 passing blackpool (300 miles in to our route and we are now 15 miles from where we started) then the rest of the route is correct.
If I ask for a route from Washpond Road in Swanage to Stanstead airport it takes me by ferry via cherbourg.

If I set the routing preferences to minimise the preference for ferries, and maximise the preference for motorways and major roads it still picks the ferry routes!

I dont think that these are isolated examples, I have only tried a few routes so far!

Am I missing something or is the routing module fundamentaly useless?
The routes above are returned both via the programming interface and via the mappoint user interface.

Looks fine in Europe 2002 (don't have Europe 2004 handy) - comes up with a route down the M6, Coventry, Kettering, then Peterborough.

Is your database corrupted?
