Hi,

I am looking for the BEST real-time gps vehicle tracking device with fleet management software. This will be for a fleet of about 40 diesel trucks. With gas prices this high, I need to find something that can really help to reduce fuel costs.

I really like a company called FieldLogix. They offer driver training based on actual telematics data gathered from your trucks. And they are a green technology company. Their Garmin interface is really good.

There is a good list of all the fleet tracking companies on Garmin's website, but I am looking for recommendations.

Well, I think you should check hellotracks.
It's state of the art real time, a lot of features, using smart phones as tracking device, really economic but great!

Are you looking to implant something or a watch? I would probably just give the child a cheap smartphone that allows tracking with something like Google Latitude. I know there are simple model cell phones with limited features designed for kids.

Of course if the child loses the phone, the battery dies, the child is kidnapped and the phone is intentionally ditched, the child does not want to be tracked and turns the phone off for a period, etc. the tracking would no longer work, but for everyday purposes I think a phone would work and be the simplest way.
