BIO-key(R) Receives $344,000 Contract Award from Hawaii County
MobileCop(R) Software Provides Hawaii Police with Wireless Access to Law Enforcement Data
WALL, N.J., Jan. 28 -- BIO-key International, Inc. , a leader in finger-based biometric identification and wireless public safety solutions, today announced the award of a $344,000 contract from the Hawaii County Police Department to implement the initial roll-out of the police department's first mobile data system.
By deploying BIO-key's MobileCop(TM) software, a wireless messaging and query solution, Hawaii County police officers will have instantaneous access to local, state and federal databases on outstanding warrants and stolen vehicles through in-car laptops. Funding assistance for the police department's commitment was provided through the use of U.S. Department of Homeland Security grants. Major Sam Thomas of the Hawaii Police Department hailed this project as "a positive example of Federal funds aiding local law enforcement in their efforts to enhance homeland defense."
Each of Hawaii County's Police Department vehicles will also be equipped with MobileCop(R) Navigator software; BIO-key's mapping solution that features Microsoft MapPoint. The software enables dispatchers to determine the location of units closest to an incident and provides officers with directions enabling the police department to respond more quickly to calls. The system will also enhance officer safety by tracking the location of all patrol officers.
Prior to placing the order for the system, Hawaii County piloted the software through the Honolulu Police Department, another BIO-key MobileCop customer. "This system will improve our agency's interoperable communications with the Honolulu Police Department on an ongoing basis as well," noted Major Thomas.
"We are pleased that at the conclusion of a comprehensive pilot, Hawaii County selected our MobileCop solution," stated Mike DePasquale, BIO-key President and CEO. "Hawaii County now becomes another major client in our roster of over 1,000 law enforcement departments that rely on us daily for access to critical information to protect their communities. We anticipate delivery of this system in the first quarter of 2008."
