*AvisMap SDM 5-Spatial Database Management*

*1.Introduction*

SDM (Spatial Database Extension) is a spatial database engine in AvisMap GIS. SDM +5 is the SDM new upgrade, which uses new data structure and index techniques for improving vast data management ability. Its combination property is higher than the other international homogeneous software. The technique of AvisMap SDM/SDM +5 successfully replaces the other international software in many large-scale GIS applications and is becoming widely used.
AvisMap SDM/SDM +5 has the function of storing mass image into large-scale relational databases and select destructive/non-destructive compression for different needs. In image database, SDM/SDM +5 will build image pyramid to avoid plenty of mass loss in wavelet image compression. It reaches the target of mass image data organizational management and rapid browse effect independent of data volume.
The spatial database engine in AvisMap GIS 5 includes: SDM 5 for SQL Server, SDM 5 for Oracle, SDM + 5 for Sybase, etc.

*2. The Main Characteristics*

*Multiple Database *

Multiple databases can be used in AvisMap GIS such as Oracle, SQL Server.
*Vector and Raster Data *

AvisMap GIS has a perfect database construction, which can store vector and raster data in the same datasource at the same time without separation.
*Topology Storage *

The datasource in AvisMap GIS database can store network topological relationship, which stores a network dataset into a database.
*Long Transaction*

AvisMap SDM 5 has long transaction processing function which can processing in a long time without any influence.
Transaction is an important function in GIS software, which includes long transaction and general transaction. General transaction is supported by DBMS, directly used in AvisMap GIS SDM +5.
However, there are some slight difference in DBMS application with GIS program such as vast processing data volume in the first edit; and long edit - for several days, months or even longer; allows others to browse correlation data during editing, which requires long transaction.
AvisMap GIS has long transaction with characteristics shown below:
After starting a long transaction, other users can only browse data before editing in lock room rather than editing situation after locked or process editing locked data;
Long transaction can persist for several days, months or even longer without any particular processing and can be continuous any time;
Modification in long transaction is quite safe. The edited data will not be lost or damaged even though in sudden power turnoff, crash or other unforeseen, catastrophic event;
At any time, if you are not satisfied with the changes, you can undo them and recover before locked;
When you submit the modified version while completing the edit,other users will receive it immediately;
Other users only can modify in locked room after you submit or undo your modification. *Adopt Compounded Multilevel Index Technique *

*Optional File Buffer Memory*

For different levels data, it adopts different buffer mode for improving efficient. File buffer memory stores data which has been accessed for the first time as a temporary file into local disk. The speed of the data fetch will be rapid afterwards. File buffer memory occupies more disk space.
*Vector Data Destructive/Nondestructive Compression*

Compression can slash data capacity and fast access speed. AvisMap SDM 5 adds destructive compress mode based on original vector nondestructive compression. This special compression model will only lose one billionth of data precision when the data size is compressed to half of the original size.
*Image Compression*

AvisMap SDM 5 improves image compression algorithm and increases the compression ratio by a large margin.
*Sequential Data*

AvisMap SDM 5 stores the whole data history for convenient tracing of data in the past, and can even playback the changes of the historical data.
*Optimization Edit Operation*

The optimization data editing makes the work more convenient which improves the efficiency for editing.

The LCU500 integrates a GPS receiver, a cellular network modem (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA/1X). The system monitors various vehicle sensors, and provides the customer with a vast variety of real-time activities and information about the vehicle.

The LCU500 is a complete vehicle security and fleet management solution in one unit. It is the most feature-rich unit in the market today, with over 85 features. The unit and its components when installed, are hidden and undetectable. A two way communication modem, based on existing wireless infrastructure, makes it possible to deploy the system with immediate functionality all around the world. The unit has a built-in alarm system, that monitors the vehicle at all times, and alerts the Control Center in case of theft or distress.

The LCU500 was tested and received *approvals (http://www.starcomsystems.com/products_certification.asp)* from the leading labs around the world, including: eMark (E24 10R-020086), TUV-GS, FCC Part 15, UL 60950, CB Certification, CE certification and Vibration and Shock Tests (done in a military lab).

OK, so I have only done half of it, and I am pushing a thousand lines of javascript, and I am not 100% happy with the appearance.
Never mind my calculus, geometry, and trigonomentry teachers are bashing heads on who taught me all of the tricks that I used to do it.

What we have here is a heavily updated version of that blue blob from last week. I am using the same base map with the same spy satellite crashing into Downtown Milwaukee
What I need to do is to get the equations a little tweaked, add more lines of resolution to the plume, and then duplicate it for the other side

But I can map/graph in 3D. You can click on the image below to get a 1024x768 version, which is almost from the same vantage point.

It seems like what I have been doing is a parallel to a demo blogged by VE for Government (http://www.mapforums.com/wrap-up-virtual-earth-presence-esri-feduc-7187.html)

I left a comment on that blog entry and at their VE 4 Government (http://virtualearth4gov.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!369B39F890CE30C1!719.entry) blog on Spaces.

I was replied with

Glad to hear. Do you think you could bring volume to the plume so that when viewed in 3D, the user can ascertain the height of the dispersion? :-)

Dying to see someone really do something like this with plumes or flood waters in 3D!
---End Quote---
And I think I am going to take that up in a crude way. Not something I have practical use for- the areas that I am mostly concerned with do not have any 3D mockups in place. I did come up with a plot, but not quite what is desired.
Image: http://www.lannonfire.com/Maps/Images/Plume3D.png
There will be a lot more involved when I do get this finished. My Trigonometry and Calculus teachers will be so proud of me...

I've been doing some tweaking of my mapplication.
The ancient Aloha NOAA dll would render an threat zone and a confidence zone. The difference between the 2 is that the confidence zone swept out a wider arc- compensating for variations in wind direction and other inaccuracies. Never can be too safe with the hazardous materials
I created a new algorithm for my mapplication, to add in that confidence area besides the original threat zone. I based mine off of the Emergency Response Guide instructions, which have a swept area equal to the downwind range. Not too hard- yeah right...
That accomplished, I added in the ability to relocate the release point. Not every chemical spill will be at the end of my driveway. So a right click now will set the center point, and plot the zones.
Something else that was added in along the way was USNG display. It is not something we are currently using, but in the future that could be an interoperability thing to work out, so I'll do it now- and that automatically displays along with the lat & long of the release point

Comparison? I found me a nasty chemical in the database known as phosgene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosgene). It was a chemical weapon circa World War I. The hazmat highlights of a large (>50 gallon) spill:
1. 2500 ft / 765 meters isolation
2. 7 mile / 11 km protection zone downrange

I used the standalone version of Aloha to create a plot. I also created the same plot using my algorithms plotted into Virtual Earth. I did a copy-paste-resize in good old MS Paint and then overlayed the Aloha plots ontop of mine. The Aloha is colored red, mine is yellow. The black grid is from Aloha, and the spacing is 2 km on them. Yes, it cannot plot our shape as it is too big. I think they are pretty close, but you can judge for yourselves
One of the tricks here is the inverted colors outside of the threat zone. It is a practical application of John @ SoulSolutions implementation of IE Image Filter (http://viavirtualearth.com/vve/Articles/IETileFilters.ashx)
Image: http://www.lannonfire.com/Maps/Images/Compare-Plot.png

This second plot is a little smaller. It would have been for the satellite that failed. Luckily the US Navy was able to shoot it down, otherwise this would have been the isolation zones for Downtown Milwaukee. The specs on it are 50/800 meter isolation zones, and a southwest wind, inverted colors on a road map

The black grid is from Aloha, and the spacing is 2 km on them. Yes, it cannot plot our shape as it is too big. I think they are pretty close, but you can judge for yourselves
One of the tricks here is the inverted colors outside of the threat zone. It is a practical application of John @ SoulSolutions implementation of IE Image Filter

How to increase audio volume for Turn by Turn Directions?

I have MapPoint 2006 with GPS. Have it installed on my Laptop. Everything is great except the audio volume for Turn by Turn instructions. It is very difficult to hear the instructions when driving due to road noise, etc.

All my audio volume controls are set at the max. If I play a CD recording while driving, I can hear with no problems.

Friends say Garmin is easy to hear when driving.

I called Microsoft Support. After troubleshooting to confirm that my volume was set to the max, the support person concluded that my system was fine. He said that if the turn by turn instructions could be heard while sitting in my office, the system is working fine. He suggested I wear headphones or attached external speakers to my laptop. Not going to happen.

When I told him that I am less than satisfied with the product, he suggested I get a money-back refund. He gave me the phone number to call. I called the number and was given the address to send the refund request. This is not what I want.

Bill Gates would love this.

I want to be able to use the turn by turn instructions on my laptop and hear them and not have to take my eyes of the road to look at the map. Sounds simple enough.

Can anyone please suggest a solution.

Thank you.

Not too much to change to transpose the 'Eggs' to VE. I rewrote the loop which created the coordinate pairs to write the javascript coding and then I needed to re-origin the map- in HTML, the origin point is the upper left corner of the screen.

So now I have a map which is hard coded on the release location. A simple point-click should be able to take care of that portion. Then the next part will be a db lookup to get the isolation distances. When we are done it should be a 3 part process. Click the origin, select the chemical, select the wind direction. Submit and get a map does not seem too far off

As I stated last week, ALOHA is out and I am hand coding the algorithms for isolation zones.
The information will be coming from the Emergency Response Guide (http://hazmat.dot.gov/pubs/erg/gydebook.htm) which provides an initial radius for isolation and an extended distance downwind.
I have succeeded in creating the 2D plot mathematically. The developement page (http://www.lannonfire.com/Forums/VirtualEarth/Plotter.aspx) was written in Classic ASP, and the coding changed the CSS for plotting 36 images (1 dot for every 10*) in a *semi-circle* upwind from the (fixed) source, and an *ellipse* downwind. It is very crude in this rendition, but once we port that over to writing javascript and putting it into VE it should be pretty good.
Give me a day or so, and I should have a static version online.

I already have the next project in the back of my head- this will be scripting to convert USNG (http://www.fgdc.gov/usng) (or MGRS) grid coordinates to my emergency mapping systems

I really never even looked at this new product until I saw a posting about it in the Microsoft Newsgroup for MapPoint.
I had to go try it.... I'm hooked now.

First thing I had to do was play with the excellent SDK over at MSDN, just so I could get out of the box and get a feel for the power. Being web based, I saw new oppurtunities with being able to be scripted.

After the initial play with stuff, I went out to see if my old friend the Aloha DLL would be nice. I was wrong- the libraries would need to be recompiled for me to use them with the MS Net Framework. Not my idea of fun- so I will see if I can try something new.

I resurected my relationship with the Emergency Response Guide, which does provide initial areas of concern for chemicals. Now, I am exploring recreating the offsets of the standard circle plot to reflect the weather.

It is then that I realized that with VE, the Aloha backbone will be a crutch even if I could harness it. The reason is that we can do 3D visuals, but the Aloha footprints are only 2D.

At this point, I am optimistic that I will have at least a 2D implementation within a week or so. The 3D will be a lot more complicated as there is a lot more variables involved. Maybe the gov't can create a more modern version of the Aloha libraries.

I have been working on other projects for the last few years, and have not done too much programmaticaly since the early days of the Iraq war- and most of that was Eric's doing, I just came up with the simple algorithms.

Prior to that I had done quite a bit using the MapPoint Control embedded into an Access db. This was actually started from another Eric prject, which tracked Chinese resteraunts. I work with emergency services so I put together an application that was based on all addresses for the community, and a simple form that displayed an MP map centered on the area between the local Fire Department and the house.
Then I started getting fancy. I added some buttons to bring up the quickest route for a fire engine or an ambulance to get there. Then we added in more buttons to get the emergency responders to a choice of hospitals.
I was satisfied with that, and then wrote an article for MapPoint Magazine titled Utilizing MapPoint for Emergency Services (http://www.mp2kmag.com/a112--emergency.services.lannon.mappoint.html)

I did add a few more features, such as plotting in evacuation areas for hazardous materials releases. I never really finished it as all I could do was simple circles based on the published guides for fires and toxicity.
One of the things I wanted to do was to integrate the ALOHA application which will generate footprints for the chemicals in play-*AND* it will factor in weather and time of day variables to plot a plume which will be a little more realistic. In the long run it was not feasible, as the VBA which is used by Access will not work with the C+ libraries from Aloha. So I left that application as it was, and really have done little with it.

Hi All,

Can any one help me in finding out programatically(VB.NET) the State/City list for a given DataSource(MapPoint.NA).

I need to do this, so that once the data source is selected, I fill the list of countries (if any) in the dropdownbox, on selecting the country I need to populate the state/province repective to this state in another dropdown and so the city.

I need to get all this info from the MapPoint.NA datasource.

I found a clue in an article and tried to explore that, below is my code, correct me if I'm wrong.

'Assume proper declarations are done
entitytypes = CommonService.GetEntityTypes("MapPoint.NA")

ForEach et As EntityType In entitytypes
If et.DisplayName.ToLower().Trim() = "texas"Then
MsgBox(et.DisplayName & " : " & et.Name & " : " & et.Definition & " : " & et.ParentName)
EndIf
Next

Many thanks in Advance

Thanks

Good Day - Please help me
I am creating a delivery route that must have 10 clients at the beginning and 40 at the end of the route. I want to manually control the sequence however MapPoint 2006 apparently optimized with their logic overriding my needed logic. Is there a way to turn off this feature?
RSVP
thanks
