Adding MapPoint 2006 Pushpins to MapPoint 2009

Posted 08-20-2008 at 08:43 PM by Winwaed
I've added some brief notes to my MapPoint 2009 Pushpin listing page, noting how to adding MapPoint 2006's pushpins to MapPoint 2009:

Pushpin Symbols for Microsoft MapPoint 2009

Note that I do not own the copyright on these pushpin images so I can not make them available for download - you have to it yourself. Luckily the utilities that you need are freeware.

There is a download for the original 256 that appeared in MapPoint 2002... it is erroneously title MapPoint 2002/2004 pushpins, but it doesn't contain all of the 2004 pushpins, only 256 of them. Hope this helps.

They have not actually.. it is only the 256 pushpins that were in MapPoint 2002 ??

It is not the full 335 that were contained in MapPoint 2004 and 2006.

Do you think they will ever get it right?

I think they should just start over and release a MapPoint 2009F i.e. Fixed that includes all the symbols and the Forward/Back buttons

And that VE blog entry announcing the new pins had enough spin that Tony Blair would have been proud!

permanently import old pushpins

it was so limited and now they've taken another step back with the latest version, argh. Does anyone know how to permanently import the old pushpins/symbols. We work with hundreds of different maps so its a lot of work to manually import symbols into every map and then each time we create a new map to do it again. Please help

You could import the pins, then save the file. Use this file as a basis of each new map that you create.

In 2006 and earlier, there was a default template that you could set - this would be used by MapPoint when it creates a new map. Eric Frost has worked with this a bit on 2009. I can't find the post now (perhaps it was on Usenet), but I think I saw someone post how to set the default template on MapPoint 2009.

Templates suitable for MapPoint 2009 and Streets&Trips 2009 are available from LaptopGPSWorld:

[Template] Old-style pushpins for Streets & Trips 2009 / MapPoint 2009

These make the process much easier, but are still based on the 2002 pins (ie. the flags and and extra icons introduced in 2004 are not included)
