| Building a MapPoint map I am in a country in the middle east, so MapPoint doesn't provide detailed street-level maps and addresses of my country. However, I want to use MapPoint with my country and want to build the required map. I have the detailed street-level and addresses information of my country for AcrGis. How can I build a map of my country that is compatible with MapPoint ? Is the data format for ArcGis and MapPoint the same ? If they have different data structure, how to convert the data from ArcGis to MapPoint ? There are some new businesses and I want to add them to MapPoint. I am going to conduct a field survey to gain the information needed. Are there any special information I need to collect from the field survey in order to add these information to MapPoint ? I appreciate any answers. Thanks in advance. =) |

Hi awal, I'm new mappoint but after having a quick search about i found several off-the-shelf tools for importing Gis format into Mappoint, one of which can be found here; GIS Data Import for Microsoft MapPoint® It costs $79 though!!! i'm sure with a bit more searching you could find a free script??? Hope this helps, if not, tell me to shut up |

You can do this, but it's not going to be like MapPoint. Routing won't work and you can't associate demographics with custom area and do thematic shading. Also, outside NA (or EU) you cannot zoom in as far. The data comes in as simple drawing objects. Anyway, here's a free importer from Microsoft called a "developer sample", it definitely doesn't do everything the $79 importer does... but maybe it is enough to demonstrate how this would work...
