I am having an issue importing .xls files into MP 2009. All I receive is "There is a problem opening c:\xxxx.xls." Ive made sure all office and windows updates have been ran minus sp3 and IE7. Ive also reinstalled the mdac.dll file and re-registered the msxxx.dll files. Ive found a work around by re-saving the xls file as a csv (comma seperated value). With the csv format, i am able to import with no issues. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled both apps multiple times. Ive also verified the excel files are not corrupt Plz help me find a fix. Let me know if anymore details are needed.

This machine is running XP pro.

I use MapPoint 2009 and import files using Excel 2003. A couple things I would try.

1. Copy you data in to a new .xls workbook. That might tell you if there is just something wrong/corrupt with the specific .xls workbook.
2. Is the .xls filename really long. There is a character limit on the filename it can import, so that might be worth adjusting.
3. I also found other info on another site (link below). It says how this error could occur if your Microsoft Data Access Component is damaged. I don't really know anything about this option, but thought I would at least point it out.

This problem was due to an installation oversight. There is an option to integrate Office w Map Point that was not selected as first. I was able to reinstall the program w the correct settings.
