Hi,

MP knows 5 categories of streets:

- Interstate highways
- Limited-access highways
- Other highways
- Aterial roads
- Streets.

Has anyone further information about these types. What model lies behind the calculation of time. Any suggestions for good values ?

I'm guessing that the "most correct" values may vary depending on area, the default values in MapPoint may have been suggestions from the data vendors who classify the roads.

If you could edit/query/re-classify the roads I think you could get into some real analysis perhaps based on observations as well as state and federal DOT data, as it in MapPoint I think you might just adjust them by observation for the area you are dealing with..

Hi,

the categories of streets are unclear. What is e.g the difference between Limited access highways and other highways. How is the velocity calculated of a street within a city compared to a small town. How is the velocity calculated of a highway in a city compared to the county. I think there must be some factors for the edges.

Are there any further explanations what these categories are in european terms. In Germany we have Autobahnen, Bundesstrassen, Landesstrassen, Kreisstrassen und Stadtstrassen.
