census tract format

Can anyone tell me what format MP2002 expect a census tract to be in?

I tried to create territories using a MsAccess table by census tract and none of them were successfully mapped.

I am my census tract is a concatenation of fips_state_code, fips_county_code, and fips_county_census_tract_code (e.g.: 17097865502)

Thanks.

Unfortunately, Mappoint doesn't use fips codes (state or county). You'll need to have State (name - not fips), County (name - not fips), and census tract as 3 separate fields. Census tract is usually in the format such as "121.10". You'll have to make sure you are using the 1990 census tract data with Mappoint 2002, however. Otherwise you won't get matches for all of your tracts (tract definitions change every 10 years based on the most recent U.S. population census). Also, Mappoint is fairly picky about County names - so you may need to export out the county data so that you can verify that the county names you are using are consistent with the Mappoint databases.

Mappoint 2004 uses census 2000 tract boundaries, however, there are some issues with the territory import routine, as well as the internal tract databases, that causes many tracts to not match correctly. I've been working with Microsoft on this issue and it is a confirmed bug.
