Changing Default Template Location

Is there a way to change the default location for the template used to create a new map. I want to use a server-based customized template with links that will be updated on the server nightly. When a user opens MapPoint, I want the displayed map to be created from the server-based template.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you checked the registry? I think there's a setting there..

I've been looking in the registry but I haven't (so far) found a key that changes the default location of the template.

I did a search for the template file name (New North American Map.ptt) and came up with this, under Software\Classes:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.ptm\MapPoint. Map.NA.11\ShellNew]
"FileName"="D:\\Program Files\\Microsoft MapPoint 2004\\Templates\\New North American Map.ptt"

I haven't tried it, but it's worth a shot?

Eric,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried changing that registry key as well as a couple of other registry keys I found that referenced the standard .ptt file but still no luck. I will likely start to look at other options to get the program to do what I want.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Thanks.

Can the shortcut on the user's machine just be changed to point to the .ptt file on the network?
