How do you get that level of detail(is that a functionality that can be manipulated with MP's current controls), in particular all the street names, and can it be achieved with just regular size prints(or screenshots) ?

Sorry. Had to move onto other things. Here is my source from the last I worked on it. I trust recompiled just to make sure it compiled okay but didn't test anything past that. I hope people can find it useful and expand upon it.

Has anyone tried to use this with MapPoint 2010? I was just trying with 2006, and I don't think 2009 is available anymore.

This seems to work well with 2010, but I am having an issue with the image joining. I as well have been disappointed that this isn't build into Mappoint, so I've been looking for a way to do this since 2004. I just got around to checking again to see what was available today. I found this script, which is great, because I had been pulling panels manually (between a quad monitor setup) and joining them in photoshop. Big thanks to blitzkriegoutlaw for creating it.

The issue I am having, similar to the problem I've had trying to do this manually, is that over a geographically large area the map distortion causes a lot of seaming errors, primarily in the vertical seams. In my case, I'm trying to do the state of Ohio, where we are based, with the intention of mapping the locations of our students geographically across the state.

Has anyone worked on the script recently, or have any ideas for dealing with this, other than reworking it in PS by hand?

I'm back on this thing again. I did a few improvements. First, by removing the fixed 3500 MAX pixels size by modifying the executable, I was able to stretch the program across all three of my monitors to get a better picture. I am also planning to add a way so the user can type in the lat/lon/alt. That way I can always get exactly the same image and overlay some layers in photoshop. I also have some ideas on how to get rid of the "panel-ripping" issue you talk about, but haven't had the chance to do it yet.

I also spent a couple of hours one night using the "Bing Maps SOAP Services API" and using the same technique of grabbing a bunch of panels and gluing them together. The results are really impressive, even though I am not planning to go that route (just playing around). I'll see if I can upload my poster size maps of Bing Maps.

Another type of map. For all these uploads by original file sizes were ~50 MB for the non-satellite images and 150MB for the satellite images. I had to reduce quality to get it to fit in a zip file.
