Code to Open Mappoint at postcode or pin

Hi. I'm using SAP Business One and have purchased an add-on to that allows me to launch an external data launcher. For instance I can put an argument- postcode- into a google URL and it will go from the programme to google maps and display the postcode.
I would like to do the same thing in mappoint and was wondering if there was a similar URL type code. The launcher seems fairly flexible.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

    Hi jamiemac,

If you slect a location in MapPoint such as Boise, Idaho and then
go to the Edit Menu and select Copy Shortcut, you'll get something
like this that you can put into a document as a hyperlink:

    file:\\C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\All%20Users\A pplication%20Data\Microsoft\Microsoft%20MapPoint\1 6.0\Templates\New%20North%20American%20Map.ptt#lat long=43.62+-116.15+203.23&style=0&state=0

Look up 'Shortcut' in help ...

    That's great Mike.

It looks like we can get it to do what we want then. Only problem is I want to put the postcode into an argument and it searches the map and goes to that pin.

So i could use something like that string you gave me but with a postcode arguement where the lag/lat codes are.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jamie.

You just need the the coordinates of the Zip.

It is published in many places, though not all agree
with each other on how to calculate where it is.

Look up zip codes latitude longitude on your favorite search engine.

Wow, had this always existed in MapPoint? Somehow I have never used it.

The help file actually does not mention latlong as a parameter, but obviously it works. It does however mention location. I think you could just put in the post code for the location.

    Customize a map shortcut

You can edit a map shortcut so that when you click it, the map opens to a specific location. You can also set optional parameters in the shortcut that determine the map style, which task panes are open, and whether the Find dialog box is open.
    1. Paste a map shortcut into your document.
      How?
Note Do not activate the hyperlink until you complete your edits.
    2. Edit the shortcut by replacing the information that appears after the pound sign (#) with location, map style, map state, and/or Find dialog box state, using this format:
      #find=[location]&style=style&state=state&FindDlg=FindDlg
Note See the Parameters and Examples sections below for more information.
    3. Press ENTER to activate the hyperlink.
    Parameters

    location
You can designate a specific location to be selected on the map when the map opens by setting the location parameter. If the location name has any spaces in it, type %20 in place of each space.
    style
You can change the map style that will be used when the map is opened by setting the style parameter.
    style
    Map style
    0
    Road map
    1
    Road and data map
    2
    Data map
    3
    Terrain map
    4
    Political map
    5
    Night road map

    state
You can change which pane is displayed when the map is opened by setting the state parameter.
    state
    Map state
    0
Default view (Legend and Overview pane open)
    1
    Route Planner pane open
    2
    Find Nearby Places pane open
    3
    Map only (no panes open)

    FindDlg
You can cause the Find dialog box to open when the map is opened by setting the FindDlg parameter.
Note You can only use the FindDlg parameter when you do not set the location parameter.
    FindDlg
    Find dialog state
    0
    Find dialog box not opened
    1
Find dialog box opened with Address tab displayed
    2
Find dialog box opened with Place tab displayed
    3
Find dialog box opened with Lat/Long tab displayed

    Examples

    • This shortcut would open a road map with the Route Planner pane open to a specific street address:
      file:\\C:\MyDocuments\MyMap.ptm#find=[1%20Microsoft%20Way,%20Redmond,%20WA,%2098052]&style=1&state=1
    • This shortcut would open a road map of Seattle with the Legend and Overview pane open.
      file:\\C:\MyDocuments\MyMap.ptm#find=[Seattle,%20WA]&style=0&state=0
    • This shortcut would open a road and data map with the Find Nearby Places pane open and the Find dialog box opened with the Address tab displayed.
      file:\\C:\MyDocuments\MyMap.ptm#find=[]&style=1&state=2&FindDlg=1
