There's a number things that can make this different from a GPS reading or from another data vendors street network including the datum being used (NAD27 or WGS84/NAD83).

Also, there's a 60-day trial version available of MapPoint, and also a less expensive product called Streets & Trips. I'd recommend getting both to continue your evaluation.
