Unfortunately you can't as such. However, if you try the different map types (political, road, data, etc), you *may* find a map that is more suitable for your needs. The same applies for the place name text - you can't switched these off either, but you can change their size to make them less obvious. (this is a common request - the text can also quickly clutter a map) Richard
