Here is my dilemma. I have route such as:

"A boundary line formed by I-95 North from the Georgia border to Hwy 17 North to Hwy 7. Follow Hwy 7 to the Cooper River and continue up the west bank to I-526. Follow I-526 to the west bank of the Wando River and continue up the west bank to Hwy 41 North to Hwy 17 North Alt. Continue on Hwy 17 North Alt to the west bank of the Waccamaw River to Conway, SC. From Conway, follow Hwy 905 to the NC State Line."

Can anyone help me with the most economical / straightforward / high quality way for me to be able to automatically import this "route" into MapPoint 2006. (I do have experience in programming in VB with the OCX Control).

Ideally I'd like to get this route digitized and use the lat/long coordinates to generate a line on demand when the user opens a specific map.

Any help would be appreciated!

If I understeand yo well, you want to import a route which is given in text. No to display this route you need the geocoordinates of every point (or as mutch as possible) and let mappoint generate the route. You can do this easy in code, but you need the coordinates.

No - I don't want to import a route given in text - I realize I will need the coordinates of the route. What I am really asking is what is the best means for me to get detailed coordinates for the route described in earlier my post?

Hi Steve,

I think what you require is simply to draw a free-form shape over the route
described and add points (vertices) at desired locations. Then, iterate over
the vertices collection and add pushpins while collecting latitude and longitude.

Can the drawn route be a combination of freeform and line objects?

Also, what do you mean by adding vertices at desired locations. Aren't the verices created as I draw the shape objects?

And finally, must I add pushpins at the vertices in order to get lat/long - in other words I assume the vertices are not in a lat/long format?

Hi Steve,

There's no reason to use multiple objects to draw the route because you
can take the free-form object and stretch it to wherever you want it.

The vertices can be added and removed by zooming in all the way and then
right clicking for a context menu. Now, vertices all have a specific latitude
and longitude which you can use, but they're not routable - hence, the need to add pushpins to use as waypoints on a route.
