This is a discussion on Custom Icons in Virtual Earth within the MapPoint Web Service and Virtual Earth forums, part of the Map Forums category; I'm currently working with Virtual Earth and custom pushpins. I'm customising the pushpins using the VECustomIconSpecification object. This changes the ...

| Custom Icons in Virtual Earth This changes the icon and text fine (a solid white disk with a letter 'A' at the moment). I need to use the text, otherwise I'll have to create 27 different symbols instead of 3! I'm finding two problems. First, VE is insisting on drawing the text (a 1 char symbol) first and then the symbol. Is there any way of changing the order, so that the symbol is drawn first and then the text? I could move the text to one side but that will look cluttered in the final application. Secondly, it looks like the ImageOffset property isn't working? The documentation is remarkably empty as to what the default is. My symbols are very simple - I want their centers to be the anchor for the requested longitude, latitude coordinate. I think I've done this in the past but it was with a much earlier version of VE. Richard

No that isn't the problem - the text offset can be adjusted in VECustomIconSpecification (and that works pretty well). I want the text to be on the symbol, butVE insists on drawing the text first then the symbol. We're looking at a different approach, because it looks like the API does not support what I want. Thanks - I did start using HTML, but I think I switched to using the object CustomIconSpecification because it was more flexible. Well, in theory - unfortunately it doesn't fully work! We are now no longer using the symbol. The image offset is still not working - I hear this is a bug with VE 6.1, but that using HTML (as per your suggestion) does work with the image offset. The error on the offset is quite small - I'm going to leave it until 6.2 comes out (unless it is noticed Richard
