Customize View Data Map

I work in the health care industry, and I am using MapPoint to illustrate patient/facility data in a US region. I typically select the text size as smallest and use the data map feature to display the data as pushpins.

I have noticed that when I import the data into MapPoint, the county lines displayed in each state make my data/pushpins appear confusing and busy. Is it possible to customize the view so that these county boundary lines or other marks can be removed? I am just looking to have a clear state with nearly no writing inside the state, so that the data itself is crystal clear. Is this possible?

When I change the map view to "Data Map" by clicking "View | Map style | Data Map" I see no county lines?

I am not sure if there is a way to attach a file to this forum, I could then show the appearance of my map. Once data is imported into the map, the little lines show up everywhere--I believe they outline the counties. I haven't been able to customize the view at all to eliminate things such as lines within each state. Any ideas?
