Difference between Mappoint 2003 ActiveX and Mappoint .NET?

I understand how to use VB6 and ActiveX control for Mappoint 2003. If we move to the .NET Framework, do I have to switch to Mappoint .NET even if our application is standalone and does NO Internet access? Perhaps this question is already answered? If so, where?

No you do not.. Visual Basic .NET and VS .NET will work with MapPoint 2002 and MapPoint 2004. The syntax is a little different but it's not a big deal.

.net lacks examples

I have been using Mappoint 2002 as an activex control in VB.NET, and have written a lot of code but the lack of examples has slowed me down so much I would not recommend this to many people. Simple things like importing files for mapping have become much much more challenging than they should be. It seems Microsoft has put all its energy into web services and forgotten those of us that still build windows apps.
