Displaying postcodes and postcode area boundaries

When, interactively, using Find to work out what format of address Mappoint 2004 will locate sensibly, the map will show the location of the centre of a postcode area by displaying the postcode on the map. This disappears as soon as I click on the map. Is there a way keep the postcode showing on the map?

Also using Find, for an address in Spain, Mappoint once showed on the map, postcode regions with a dotted boundary with a 3 digit number (last 3 digits of postcode?) in the centre of the region. I have tried to get it to do that again with no luck! Was I imagining it?

I am familiar with mappoint programming.

Re: Displaying postcodes and postcode area boundaries

After doing a Linked Data Import, I am now seeing all the postcode regions There seems to be no way to switch these on or off either in the user interface or programmatically. I also notice a peculiarity that zooming in to different countries has different effects. If I zoom in, using the slider, to the UK I see more and more detail, down to being able to see a 4 character postcode region, with however beyond a certain level, when I release the mouse button this all disappears. With other countries this does not happen.

I haven't really answered my question so would still appreciate replies.

    Hi Nick,

I've imported these numbers as icons and plotted them where appropriate.
That might be your only option.

    Postcode boundaries answered

I have found that the postcode areas and boundaries are shown if you have a dataset where you have specified, in the Data Fields section of the Data Mapping Wizard, a "Show the data by" level. Whatever you specify here then those areas and boundaries are shown on the map. For example if you set this to County then you see counties, if you set it postcode sector then you see 4 digit postcode areas (UK of course). If you have more than one dataset with different grouping you get to see all boundaries. No choice. Leaving the setting at the base mapping level is not good enough. I mean by "the base mapping level" where the 'Combine the data by' section is greyed out.

Usually if you remove the dataset then you no longer get to see the boundaries. What I have found that in this bug ridden, unintuitive, half finished, inconsistently mapped piece of software that I am surprised Microsoft are happy to put their name to, is that even though I no longer have any grouping for my European countries (i.e. excluding UK) I am still seeing the postcode areas. No choice.
