I must be crazy...I simply need to avoid a bridge.

So I create an area, right click, the avoid area.

However my route still goes right through the avoid area?

What am I doing wrong?

I´m just a newbie but I think that read I a thread that the avoid area only works on junctions. So I would try to include the closest junctions in the avoid area.

Yes, that's correct. Avoid area only works for intersections. It will not work if you just cover a line segment.
