Ensuring a Single Pushpin Appears Above All Others

    Hi there,

I'm programatically plotting a trail of pushpins across the map (using the windows desktop control) with the most recent point - e.g. the head, being bright red, and the other points being yellow.

The problem is, sometimes if the points are quite close together, the yellow points appear above the red ones making it impossible to identify the head of the trail.

Can anyone tell me how to always make the head pushpin appear at the very top of the z order? Please note that I mean programatically as opposed to interacting with the control manually.

Many thanks to anyone who can advise

    Kindest Regards

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

I would recommend making the head pushpin a separate dataset, then you can add it last and it should always appear on top.

    Hi Eric,

Thanks very much for your reply. Is this the only way to do what I need?

It seems like a bit of a pain to maintain several data sets. You see the problem is, I can potentially have lots of "trails" on the map at one time. It's basically an app that allows the user to track several lorries at a time.

Taking a slightly different track, is it easy to maybe make the symbol that will be used by the pushpin larger, or are you only allowed pushpins of a default size?

    Many thanks again

You can definitely make the Pushpins larger - just choose a larger one, or make a custom Pushpin that is large. They can be pretty big!

I haven't played with this recently, but as I remember there's no real way to control the order of the pushpin display order when they are in the same dataset ?? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Hey - I wonder if you put all the trailheads in the same dataset, that would minimize the number of extra datasets you have to deal with.

I think you're right Eric - I've just run in to this exact same problem. Luckily your solution was just what I needed!

I had pins in group A & group B. I already had them in separate datasets because they're physically very different things. At first I tried writing "group B" pins last instead of 'as I found them', but that didn't work (I assumed they were displayed in insertion order), but creating dataset B second did the trick!
