    European Demographic Upload Issues

    Hi, hoping for some help.

I am new to MapPoint however am now versed with the data population. However I have some demographic information that is by British postcode district. For example AB10 1 (full postcode is AB10 1DE, but I don't have the information at that level). I am trying to upload this so that I can analyse using this demographic. I have attached a sample for someone else to test.

However whenever I try to map the data and it only maps the data to one point even though I have several thousand different postcode sectors.

    - Is there an issue uploading at Postcode district level?
    - Is there anyway I can build this demographic in?

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

    Regards

    Ben

Hi Ben and Welcome to the Forums! I hope you find it useful and stick around.

There was no attachment, maybe you can just part some of the data as part of a thread?

I am actually working on a UK Postcode article and there is a related thread here --

See this post in particular --

Do you have Postcode District or Postcode Sector data or something else?

I doubt it makes a difference, but what version of MapPoint are you using?

I had no problems importing district and sector data. If you have data at one of those levels, perhaps it comes down to some formatting issue?

look forward to hearing from you.

    Re: European Demographic Upload Issues

Take a look at the summary I posted of UK postcode data in MapPoint.

    Postcode Areas
    120 total records
One or Two character codes: one or two letters
    Examples: TR, PL, TQ
Areas range from 4 to 16,000 sq. km.

    Postcode Districts
    2,727 total records
Two to Four character codes: one or two letters, one or two numbers
    Examples: TR4, PA47, LL60
Areas range from 0 to 3,500 sq. km. (IV27 is 3,459 sq. km.)

    Postcode Sectors
    9,120 total records
Four to Six character codes (including space): one or two letters, one or two numbers, a space, one number
    Examples: L4 3, PR9 0, EH10 6
Areas range from 0 to 3,500 sq. km. (IV27 4 is 3,351 sq. km.)

I think what you are calling a Postcode Sector, MapPoint is calling a Postcode District?

What you are calling a Postcode Area, MapPoint is calling a Postcode Sector?

I don't know what's correct, but trying using the MapPoint nomenclature when importing.

    hope this helps,
    Eric

    Hi Ben,
I get slightly confused by your data and the reference to demographic information. It would seem that you could create territories with your information and map by the choice MapPoint allows, ie Area, District or Sector. In fact it would indeed mean formatting the data. I live in the Netherlands and regularly do projects for UK customers, so I am quite familiar with the UK postcodes. Did you manage to solve your problem in the meantime?
    Regards,
    Paul
