Exception "Import failed"!

VC# .NET 2.0
Mappoint 2006

Hello guys,

My client uses my map application quite a while, but he contacted me for an error with the message: "Import failed"

I analized my source and found out that the message is from an exception, where I haven't done any processing with it, except just showing the error message.

In the try block I create a pushpin, location and a symbol. But I don't know which one failed. Does anyone know what can cause the exception "Import failed"?

Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Exception "Import failed"!

Hello friends,

I found the cause of the "Import failed" exception! It is caused when calling objSymbol = Map.Symbols.Add(GetFileName);
This was doing well all the time, untill I loaded 997th symbol image. It's like there is a limit of loading symbols, but is there really a limit on loading symbols?

It's so frustrating, isn't there a real solution for that?
Please, help me out guys!

Extra info:
I use the same filename but that shouldn't be the problem right?
Everytime I get a position, I draw a new bmp file with the same name and that bmp file is than loaded again when adding a symbol. And that should be more than thousand...but why did it throw an exception? I checked the filename, the bitmap everything seems to be ok, but according to debugging info it fails to load more symbols.

Re: Exception "Import failed"!

There is a limit, but I thought the total was more like 65536 - including those pre-loaded.

Re: Exception "Import failed"!

Hi Winwaed,

Thanks for your post, well there is really a limit on loading symbols. The thing is, it's like loading a library of icons and using thousands of icons seems not to be practical from the Mappoint developers's view. Maybe the main usage of Mappoint is to use it as a Mappoint application itself not as a COM object.

So I guess when they were developing Mappoint, they thought it's a bit silly to make it possible to use more than thousand icons for the pushpins. I can agree with them from that point of view (POV). So I have to modify my source to work around.

Thank you.
