Exec SQL Queries in MapPoint without Excel

    Hello,

I'm a complete Newbie in MapPoint, and I have to deal with it to do a project.
I have a SQL Server with a clients database. In MapPoint want to place areas where technicians go most often.

At this time, I use Excel with ODBC link, to get data for EACH technician.
Next, I import Excel file in MapPoint and I choose colors, etc...
Result is perfect, but there is too many manipulations, I would like to click on a button per technician directly in MapPoint. This action would retrieve data on SQL Server and display it on the map.

Or, more difficult, just one button, and when I click on it, it ask me to choose technician name in a list, and do right SQL request with this value.

Can you tell me if it is possible, and if yes, how to do that ?

    Thank you so much,
    Clement

You should be able to import directly from an ODBC database using a UDL file (basically stores the connection information):

In order to just query specific data (eg. for a particular technician), you will probably need custom programming to perform the query and plot pushpins with the results.

Re: Exec SQL Queries in MapPoint without Excel

    Thank you for your answer.
To avoid to do a specific program, I've kept my excel file that I update before launching MapPoint.

So I have this result, which is very nice :

I have all my technicians at the left, and all colors are displayed on the map.
But I haven't found how to display only ONE technician and hide all others !

Can you help me please ?

    Great screenshot!

What version of MapPoint are you using? Can you right-click on the layer in the Legend and hide it? Or does that only work for Pushpin layers?

    Hello !

This is MapPoint 2011. I don't have hide option by clicking right on an item in the legend
It not seems to be "layers" because I haven't this keyword in item options !

I have imported data for each technician one-by-one (Link Wizard), all extracted from one Excel file (with 8 sheets).

Oh -- one thing that would be easy to do would be to open another instance of MapPoint with a new blank map, and copy / paste individuals layers from the legend over to the blank map. Does that make sense?

    Hello,

Same thing if I copy/paste these layers on a new map.
But if I add a pushpin, I can hide it! It seems to be impossible with linked data ????

I was thinking each layer is a single technician, so to show only one technician you would only copy / paste a single layer?

oh ok, but it demands too much manipulations, it would be better if I can simply hide a layer!
    There is no way ?

Re: Exec SQL Queries in MapPoint without Excel

Maybe make a separate PTM map file for each technician rather than trying to have them all on one map?
