    Exporting Drive Time coordinates

    Hi all,

we are novices at MapPoint but have a requirement to draw a drive time isochrone (which we can do) and then export the coordinates that make up this polygon.

Ideally we would like to export the coordinates in the OSGB36 datum (easting/northing) rather than WGS84 datum - but this is a "nice to have".

Can anyone advise if this is possible ? When we try to "export to Excel" we only get data about the contents of the drive time zone instead of the shape itself.

Do we need to dig into APIs or is there a function we are missing ?

    thanks in advance !

    Peter

Yes you would need to dig into the APIs if you wish to export the vertices for the drivetime shapes. The drivetime zones are going to be defined as Shape objects in the Map object's Shapes collection. They will be freeform shapes. You will need to extract the vertices.

We have a tool (MPSuperShape) which can export shape information to a number of formats - ESRI SHP; MapInfo MIF; a variant of GML; and KML. The latter two are text XML, so you could use these and a simple script to extract the coordinates.
    These coordinates will use WGS84.

You could get OSGB36 if you used the MIF option. MIF is text as well but it would take a bit more to decipher the format when you are writing the script. MPSuperShape supports output in different coordinate systems for MIF and SHP files (these formats both support different coordinate systems).

Further details and a free trial download can be found here:

Thanks for your promising feedback Richard !

We will give this a try and see what we can extract...

    Re: Exporting Drive Time coordinates

    Hi Richard,

This looks to be exactly what we need

We are able to create suitable MIF files for external use...only one thing stopping us is that we need to be able to name the drive-time zones and see those names exported in the MIF file. As far as we can see, this should be possible (we are using your addiotnal plugin to name the zones) but the exported MIF file excludes the name. Can you please advise what we are doing wrong ?

    Re: Exporting Drive Time coordinates

I've just looked at the MIF format, and yes it looks like it doesn't support names.

Names would have to go in a matching MID file.

I could add this but not today. I would also need to look at what is required (it would also make sense to add pushpin data fields to any MID support that I add)

Send me an email if still interested.

    Re: Exporting Drive Time coordinates

Thanks for confirming that we are not missing anything at our end.

We have found that the GML format does include the name id and although this is in WGS84 datum, we may be able to work with this.

We'll head down that track for now and will get back to you if we hit problems and conclude that we do need MID support. It will be a week or two before we get too far advanced, so if you conclude that you'll have this support in place within that timeframe, it's something we can reconsider.

thanks for your fast support and quality plugin ! We are going to see if we can get budget approval to purchase.

    Obliged,

    Peter
