Exporting Drivetime Zone coordinates

I work with ArcView GIS but don't want to spend the $ (for ESRI's pricey Network Extension) or time to set up ArcView drivetime zone rules, which MapPoint does so efficiently.

I'm looking for a way of exporting the coordinates of MapPoint drivetime zones which I can import into ArcView as polygons.

The workarounds of using the Location Sensor to individually record Lat Longs or capturing a graphic and geo-referencing it in ArcView are okay for occasional use, but very tedious for frequent use.

Any ideas?

I compiled a polygon exporter based on code by Walt Cygan. There is a link at the bottom of this newsletter: http://www.mp2kmag.com/update/?id=5 It is the last item.

Many thanks, Eric. The solution you offered works well. For those looking for a way to export drivetimes from MapPoint for subsequent import into ArcView 8, here are the details of this multi-step procedure:

1. Create any number of drivetime boundaries on MapPoint (which has the Spatial Data Import COM add-in - see above).
2. Use the Export button to create a MapInfo file.
3. Use ArcView’s ArcToolbox to convert the MIF file to a Shapefile (choose the lines, not points). Note that MapPoint’s data uses the NAD27 datum.
4. Add data to an ArcView Map. The data is in the form of a polyline, which is not closed.
5. Edit each polyline in ArcView to close the (to be) polygons.
6. Use an appropriate script or extension (I used ET Geo Wizards) to convert the polyline to polygon, and voila! you now have used MapPoint without the need to spend $thousands on the Network Extension (at time of writing ESRI has not produced the Network Extension for ArcView 8).
