| A few very basic questions I am looking for the answers to a few simple questions. The company that I work for currently uses MapPoint 2004 and we are considering an upgrade or complete switch to a new program. Our needs are simple, most mapping that I do is simply illustrating where our accounts are. Nothing fancy, just the basic plotting of information. However, the road data is obviously outdated and it is becoming increasingly more obvious as many of our accounts are mapped to zips. Since we use the program for such simple needs, I have one major complaint. The legend is very frustrating as each time you make a change to a pushpin, it moves to the top. And in order to keep numerical or alphabetical order, I must cut and paste (unless I am missing another way?) Additionally, I need to supply maps via Word or Powerpoint to other employees who do not have mappoint installed on their PC. So, do either of these issues improve with MapPoint 2006? Or am I currently missing a way to properly use the program? Or am I better off using another program? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I am sorry that this is so long. Thank you! |

Hi, There is not much changed in MP2006. What you eventually can do is if you can program, or have a programmer on the company, then MP can be embed in another application (or also possible to write an add-in), then you have complete control on these things.

First, thank you for your response. I am glad to know that there is hope! If I could just bother you with a few more questions. I have no programming knowledge or experience, so I need to be able to explain this to the programmers in my company. Are there any resources that I can direct them to? Specifically what should I be requesting them to do? Before we make the decision to upgrade, I have to be certain that this is something that they can do. Thank you |

Hi, Point them out to the mappoint help. It has a program information section at the end. Look for ZOrder. For word or Excel they can use the Excel or word Automation or VBA. So they can do in their application the automation of MapPoint and in the same application the automation for Word or Excel. Should be not difficult to copy a map from mappoint into word doing so I suppose. You can also point them to this forum. Lots of people are here that will try to help and give information. I have no much experience in automating Word or Excel but lot's of others have.
