Garmin GPS35 PC

I'm an experiened MapPoint user, but new to GPS. I'm not sure how the NMEA 2.0 requirement works. For example, Garmin has a nice unit, named GPS35PC, that would appear to be perfect. The upcoming UPS version looks even better.

Will this work, do I need anything else other than to plug it into my laptop?

Anybody already using this one?
