| Re: Google Chrome Download
I haven't downloaded it, neither have I read much about it, yet. Most of my web activity is while on the road, via my mobile Internet connection. When I used to have slow mobile Internet access, I used FireFox. It was much faster than Internet Explorer. But now I have a new laptop, and I use high-speed mobile Internet connection. I never bothered installing a web browser on this new laptop, since speed is no longer an issue it once was for me. So I just use IE, since Windows comes with it already. What would be the top one or two reasons I should look into Google Chrome?

I wouldn't recommend it actually as it doesn't do a few things I would have expected when testing... but it's an interesting piece of technology. I have an iMac and knowing that the underlying engine is the same as Safari (WebKit) I am not surprised.. it has a similar feel. So it's like Google take on Safari (no wonder they didn't bother with a Mac version yet).. I think what's most interesting is if Google tailors some of it's services or releases new services to work with Chrome first or even only with Chrome. I don't know if Google would deliberately use this tactic to throw it's weight around, but why wouldn't they - I do think it's likely. ![]() Eric

I have DL'd it at home and at work. For general browsing it seems to be fine, but there are issues when it comes to forms: * spell check does flag errors, but you cannot add to dictionary * upload forms do not render the text box for the paths * text areas used for posting in some forums are quite funky when it comes to editing. I have seen this only in phpbb (so far), it is fine here (vBulleting) and in another forum I frequent (SMF). I also do not like the installation into the user folder on the HD, I prefer programs to be installed where I want them, and if not then in the Program Files directory. I have read about concerns of the browser calling home, possibly with more than history usage I have also read about add-ins which block Chrome from certain software applications, such as vBulletin. |
