    Oh - as in it costs 1 cent to post a tweet.

    No, I think you just insert ads anywhere or everywhere. Of course you're worried about turning off users, but who is really turned off from Gmail or Yahoo! Mail because of the ads?

    Hotmail is kind of a special case I think because of the actual system generated/sanctioned spam. I don't think you'd want to insert ad tweets, but maybe an ad underneath like with Yahoo! Mail is ok.

    The problem with adverts and Twitter is that most people use it through the web services and not through the (unintuitive and seemingly limited) web interface. If they start broadcasting sanctioned tweet adverts then the user base is going to drop quickly.

    Web services would probably have to become a subscription service.
