Is GPS tracking possible in mappoint 2009 or not? If yes, how?

Yes it will track a GPS. Doing something useful with it through the API is a different matter.

MapPoint 2010 gives a little bit of control through the API, but th eonly way of getting info in/out would be to use the GPX output option.

An alternative that some people have used with earlier versions, is to write their own NMEA parser and read the data directly from the COM port.
