I was trying to install the Database for the MapPoint Location Server as a part of the complete install. I happen to read in the hardware requirements that it needs a 1Ghz+ processor, 1Gb+ ram, and 30Gb of harddisk space.

I have the required harddisk space, but have a pentium3 900 Ghz processor, and 460mb of RAM. Also my computer is a part of a domain but not on active directory.

Can some one please let me know if I can install with my hardware requirements for testing and learning purposes, and if this can be achieved in any manner without setting up active directory accounts?

I would imagine that you're close enough on the hardware requirements... especially if you're not doing production fleet tracking with it.

The Active Directory requirement is probably firm, you might need to re-install your computer as stand-alone with AD to make MLS work. There's an article on a "Manager's Perspective on Implementing MLS" in the articles section that you might want to look at..
