Holy Disappointment, Batman! (MapPoint 04)

Well, first looks, it seems that there's absolutely nothing nw for VB developers. No new methods (except for one thing that has to do with UK), properties or events (Thought they'd give in and add the extract Lat/Long functionality so we could drop the work around). No .Net framework stuff.

Am I missing something, or was this just an extremely overpriced upgrade?

You are correct sir!

MP 2004 is only for people who need upgrades to the following:

* New Streets for the Maps
* New Demographics

It's basically the same thing as MP 2002.

Kinda feels like turning in the same term paper for another class back in college. Microsoft made a big mistake here. Too much .NOT Yet crap.

Disappointment is too-kind a word!

If you're missing something then it's a closely kept secret because I find nothing anywhere to suggest otherwise. Based on the added funtionality and the upgrade price, sounds like the MP Product Manager used to work for IBM. It's the old "get 'em by the balls & squeeze" marketing philosophy. MS has apparently moved to the "squeeze" stage now.

So, does anyone know of a good product for map app developers?

MP2004

I agree, nothing new except updating maps that were hopelessly out of date compared to other solutions. Nothing for VB developers. SDK has not been updated. None of the developer doc was touched. If you are a VB.NET programmer you still have to basically figure it all out for yourself.

New EULA

One exciting new feature is the greatly enhanced EULA, which now makes it illegal to use Mappoint for anything having to do with tracking vehicles using GPS, or for "fleet" applications of over 50 vehicles. This compelling feature provides added incentive to review the competion, such as GeoMicro, or ESRI!
