How do you chat in the trade or general discussion chats in World of Warcraft?

Ok, I know how to chat in the guild chat, in the party chat, and I know how to say something where what you say appears over your head. But how do you talk to other players using just "general" chat or "trade" chat?

Re: How do you chat in the trade or general discussion chats in World of Warcraft?

Hi Kevin,

This is an odd place to ask that question! Fortunately, I used to play quite a bit of WoW when I had free time on my hands. WoW assigns a numerical value to each chat depending on your location.

1 is always assigned to a general zone chat where you can talk to people in the same zone that you are in. If you type "/1" your chat will be directed here.

"/2" is assigned to "Trade" chat. You can only access "Trade" chat in one of the major cities across the continent. This can be done from either your faction's cities or the opposing faction's cities, though I would not recommend the latter!

"/3" is assigned to a "LocalDefense" chat which allows you to speak to people in your zone. This is usually used on PvP servers to locate players of the opposing faction that are attacking your towns.

You can also create custom private chat channels that other people can join! These can be assigned to "/4", "/5", and so on. They can even be passworded if you desire.

Conor
