I use Mappoint for designing regional wireless communications networks. It gives me a first cut look at RF propagation for locating towers before I use more complex propagation models that include detailed terrain features. The resulting output of Map point, using the pushpin tool, provides a Lat Lon input to the propagation tools where I fine tune the results.

I have built a fat client suite of tools along the lines of CRM, which is aimed at the vertical market of politicians. The program is called MrDistrict (www.mrdistrict.com) . My company was recently mentioned along side several multi-million dollar companies in an article in the WSJ (August 31, 2004). The MapPoint ActiveX control is included with the program and optimized for tasks that a politician would find useful. MrDistrict also does lots of other things like analysis, newsletters, straw polling, targetting, form letters, donation/campaign finances, canvassing and more but the Microsoft MapPoint ActiveX control adds some really classy features ... and hey, the user can map out the family vacation she's going to take with all the money MrDistrict is saving her.

I use MapPoint as the GIS brains of an Emergency Services dispatch training simulator that operates as an interface to VisiCAD - a computer-aided dispatch system developed by TriTech Software Systems (http://www.tritech.com). The simulator creates incidents within the dispatch system and then MapPoint is used to calculate routes and create AVL position updates for the fleet of simulated vehicles as the dispatchers assigns units to the incidents and manages the simulated fleet. I purchase land for a national home builder. I import comps, articles, etc. from various sources into mappoint using Long/Lat or addresses. When I am looking at an opportunity in an area, I can quickly find out what the market is like in the general vicinity.

I have a vertical market application for Meals on Wheels organizations. MapPoint (via Com, and/or Streets and Trips via mail-merge) can be used to generate route maps, and for route optimization.

Our Dispatchers use MapPoint to determine where there trucks are. We use satellite communications for near real time display. Trucks send back information during key events such as shift start / shift end / loading / unloading / fueling / starting to drive / etc. as well as various emergency conditions.

Dispatchers move through a data grid of trucks and can see that truck highlighted on the map. Conversely Dispatchers can select a truck on the map and the data grid will synchronize.

I use MapPoint to develop tracking solutions. We developed a team management console for Operation Red Nose. It optimises their operations and reduce the client's waiting time. It will be used all over the Quebec province in Canada.

Last year we used it for real-time tracking. It worked great!
