I have the hyperlink box checked in the linking dataset. Direct links to files and http links work fine inside the pushpin balloons. I think I just need the correct format. |

It is a while since I tried them in the past, but had no problem with a traditional "http:// " service specifier. Not sure if you typed one of those or not - it looks like the forum software substituted the titles. Richard

http:// works just fine for external links, but what I am trying to do is have a contact from my own computer open when I click on a link that I put in the pushpin balloon. I just don't know the syntax to reference these directly outside of the Office suite. Mappoint works differently than Excel or Word, because some of the examples from my original question will work inside those envvironments but not in Mappoint balloons. Mappoint does not seem to understand the "Outlook:" identifier that works in Excel and Word. |

That works too. But it doesn't seem to get me any closer to opening a specific contact form like I want. I think I need to explain more about what I am doing. I have a sales territory with about 2000 clients that I see on an irregular basis. It is concentrated in a fairly small area (Orange County, CA). I have each of these clients marked with a pushpin on the map. I export the contact data from Outlook to Excel and then import it into Mappoint. I store information about each client on an Outlook contacts form which I've customized. I store notes, their picture, last meeting info, etc. When trying to figure out who I should drop in and see if I am in the area, I want to be able to click on one of my pins to see who it is and bring up all of the data from the Outlook contact form. I thought that if I included a link back to the Outlook contact form in the pushpin balloon, my problem would be solved. The thing is, I can get "http://bobsmithwebpage.com" and mailto:bobsmith@bobsmith.com type links to work fine in the pushpin balloons. The "http:" pulls up the specified webpage and the "mailto:" opens an Outlook form for sending an email, but the syntax for opening a specific Outlook contact still eludes me. I'm looking for the equivalent of "contact:bob smith". What I want is when I click "contact:bob smith" in the Mappoint pushpin balloon it would launch the contact form for that contact just as if I doubleclicked on it in the Outlook contacts area in the Outlook application. I can get this to work in both Word and Excel but not in Mappoint pushpin balloons. I hope this is clearer. Thanks. |

The "outlook:" is something non-standard. If it works (eg. in IE) it is because Microsoft created it - and they might have copied that ability to MapPoint. If not, then you're going to have to add a bit of custom coding. For example, you could have a menu item. Use clicks this, and the code could look at the currently selected pin and and open Outlook at the relevant place. Or you could filter the mouse events... Richard
