When handling the mappoint control in VB6, does anyone know if it's possible to have something OTHER than north be at the top of the map.. basically I want to rotate the map, with the text on the map drawn facing the right way still (simple image rotate won't work)..

This is not the first time this has come up.. As far as I know there is not a solution.

That's really too bad.. oh well chalk up another for the wish list I guess!

OTOH, there's always a way.. I don't know if anyones built something that can rotate the entire Windows layout, but I imagine there something that could be done of the video driver level, or maybe with DirectX. Good luck!

If you don't need all the functionality, you could rotate an image of the map and display that, but the problem is that all the font overlays will be sideways which kinda sucks. However I think it MAY be worth it for GPS tracking in a car...

I wonder.. how often are the new mappoint versions released?

I guess the DirectX could be a good idea. Who did try it?
