It won't do MapInfo tab files but it will do MapInfo mif/mid files. If you have MapInfo Pro you can export them to mif/mid easily or you can use a free tool like -- FWTools: Open Source GIS/RS Binary Kit There is supposed to be a command-line tool ogr2ogr that will do conversions. Or -- MITAB - MapInfo .TAB and .MIF/.MID Read/Write Library see tab2tab.

I know that at one time Mapping Solutions extended the Spatial Data Importer to support importing tab files directly but I don't see it in their product list, you might contact them.

I have done a lot of customizations of the Spatial Data Importer myself, mainly just to perform thematics or coloring based on some variable or variables and also doing automatic labeling.

Re: Import Mapinfo Layer

Hi,

I've been using Mappoint for a couple of weeks now, and I was wondering if you guys know a way to import layers that can be seen when exporting data to excel for instance.

My goal is to link customer addresses with urban areas in Europe

I tried the spacial layer import but it's just visual ...

Any help will be much appreciated

Thanks

Well when i import customer addresses into mappoint, I can then export them on excel and I'll have a table with my customer info ranked by city county state.

What i'd like is to be able to import new territories (map of european urban areas) in order to have my customer info ranked by urban areas.

I already tried to import the urban areas from a .shp file but mappoint only see them as polygons and not real boundaries ...

I hope it's more clear now !

Thanks

Jimmy
