Question Importing from Excel troubleshooting

Hi all,

I am trying to import a list of zip codes from an Excel sheet into MapPoint. The list includes zip codes between New York and New Jersey. Mappoint doesn't show me the New Jersey zip codes territories on the map as it does not recognize the numbers. I have tried formatting the numbers in a number of ways but without success. Can someone please assist?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Importing from Excel troubleshooting

Here is an example from the data I am using:

TerritoryZIP CodesBKLN11201BKLN11205BKLN11206BKLN11211BKLN11213BKLN11215BKLN11216BKLN11217BKLN11221BKLN11222Zone 107001Zone 107002Zone 107003Zone 107004Zone 107006Zone 107008Zone 107009Zone 107010Zone 107011

When you import the data, MapPoint will create the Brooklyn territory, but not Zone 1 with the NJ zip codes as listed. The original data is much larger, but the problem is consistent.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Importing from Excel troubleshooting

Needless to say, the data is organized in only 2 columns: The first labeled "Territory" and the second is labled "Zip Codes". The data is entered below the heading. It all got messed up during the cut and paste.

Re: Importing from Excel troubleshooting

I haven't tried the Data ...Territories yet, since I have something
running for the next hour, but I was wondering how this would work
without the Zone1007x data?

Let me rephrase that ... import the 1007x data seperately, I mean ...

Re: Importing from Excel troubleshooting

I actually tried manually removing the "0" before the NJ zip codes and it seems to work. I don't understand why it is necessary as I tried formatting the number as zip codes in Excel and can't imagine that this step will be needed for the entire state.....
seems a little weird..
I do have issues trying to import zones with other zip codes onto a map as well. I can't seem to figure out how MapPoint would like me to format the numbers so it can properly map them as zip codes...

Re: Importing from Excel troubleshooting

NN,

I think you should export to csv with the columns you want
and put the zeroes back - then it should import fine.
Excel is too "helpful" with zipcodes.
