    Unhappy Importing Greek Prefectures problem

    Hello from Greece,
This is my first post so please be kind!
I have tried to import the population of Greece in the map with no errors but the analysis isn't by prefecture , only by region. It seems that the application ignores all the Greek Prefectures and shows only the sum of the data by region. When I 'm importing the xls file everything seems ok , all the columns are recognized correctly with no errors.I am selecting <Other data> for the amount of population for each prefecture. I'm choosing shaded area for my map type and population for the data field but the "Prefecture" column doesnt appear in the "show the data type by " field .Have i done something wrong. Could you please help me. I would like to make a sales map for the company I am working for.

I am using the Mappoint 2013 trial Europe version.
Excuse me for my bad English and thank you in advance.

Do you mind to post that data as a zipped Excel spreadsheet? I can play with it. I'm not sure MapPoint has boundaries for prefecture? That's what I'll look into.. I'm curious what the screen looks like when you specify the columns in the Import Data Wizard.

I see what you mean. When you are at this screen in the import process, it looks like it recognizes the Prefecture --

but when you get to the screen you posted above in your first post, it doesn't let you map down to that level.

Actually I do not think it's a bug in this case. MapPoint just doesn't support Shading prefectures (I just tried with MapPoint 2010, same thing). So it's not a bug, it's just not a supported feature unfortunately.

I think the reason it does recognize the Prefecture when importing is to help with Point or Pushpin geocoding i.e. address-matching.

If you have Prefecture boundaries in a MapInfo mif/mid format, it's possible to import polygons and shade them, but this requires some advanced coding and libraries for importing. It would take me 1-2 hours to set up even with the code and projects I already have. Do you have other software or method for shading the prefectures the way you want?

Eric , thank you very much for your reply. No i dont have other software for shading the Greek prefectures. I want to use mappoint because I am working with dynamic excel speedsters(OLAP) for sales analysis of the company I am working so i believe that mappoint is the best solution. Do you have any suggestions? Should I start drawing territories ? I don't have coding skills
    thank you very much

The Maptitude Mapping Software complements a MapPoint installation and would allow you to do what you require. For example, see the attached screenshot using your data.
