There is. First try the Spatial Data Importer developer sample
code, see: http://www.mp2kmag.com/news.asp?NewsID=%09%0920
If this doesn't work for your data and re-working the sample code (VB6) is too difficult, there are some commercial offerings such as Safe software's FME translator which may do the trick, see:

If the the file your trying to import is an MapInfo ASCII Datapoints file you can import it using Coordinate Exchange ( http://www.hypercubed.com/projects/coordex/ ). If you can't find an application that meets your needs try posting a sample of the data file.
Hypercubed

He has lines, not points.. will Coordinate Exchange import polylines from a mif/mid?

Right now CoordEx only imports the MapInfo ASCII Data points files. I could probably add it without too much trouble but I'm sure the Spatial Data Importer will work.Originally Posted by Eric Frost
Although this thread is a little old, I note it is coming up in a lot of Google searches, so I'll add my tuppenneth (two cents)...
Our "MPSuperShape" product has been able to import MapInfo MIF files (as well as ESRI Shape, KML, etc) for a few versions. The latest version, v2.0, adds support for MapInfo MIF export and also adds support for multiple projections and coordinate systems.
See: http://www.mpsupershape.com for more information.

By the way, the Spatial Data Importer Developer sample was originally programmed by Visimation for Microsoft... Visimation later developed a much more complete and polished commercial version --
GIS Data Import for Microsoft MapPoint®
They also have a fully working but time limited trial.
I don't think it does half of what MPSuperShape does (export/coordinate transformation/shape manipulation), but simply for Imports it might be worth the comparison.
