Hi!

I would like to know how do I import Shape files to Mappoint 2006 North America.
I want to show shapes in the Mappoint application. In the user application is easy, however, when developing I have no idea on how to do that.
I installed the SpatialDataImport add-in, but the API only has one class and two interfaces. I have absolutely no Idea on how to import data from a .shp file to my application.

It might be easier if you can convert the shape files to mif/mid first. Then you just have to read a text file instead of a binary file.

In any case, I've dug through the Spatial Data Importer code and made it a lot more straightforward when I have little things to do and I don't want all the classes. You can do it. Just use the debugger and see what each line of code it doing and you can rip out the essential stuff for your own project.

Thanks for the 'plug' micheln. We had some trouble with the installer and temporarily withdrew MPSuperShape from the market. I hope to get it back into Beta this week.

As for the original query: MPSuperShape is an add-in for MapPoint. Yes it can import MIF and SHP files, but it does not have an API to do this.

This MapPoint GIS Data Import tool was developed by the same team that created the Spatial Data Import sample code that Microsoft offers for free download. This product isn't free, but it's a lot more reliable and automatically performs conversion of the ESRI or MapInfo file to WGS84 coordinates that MapPoint requires. Check out the description and trial download and see if it does what you need.

I think he wants to do it in his application, read the first post again. That's why I referred him to the developer sample code..

MPSuperShape or the MapPoint GIS Data Import tool from ShapeSource do not come with the code, right?

I think what is needed is a simpler example code project e.g. just a function or subroutine that could be used like

Maybe it could also have some parameters such as fill color, line width and color, etc.

You may be right, but I wasn't sure if he was using the Spatial Data Import sample code because there wasn't a good existing add-on solution. We don't provide the code with the application. Sorry if I misunderstood.

BTW, a lot of the work to develop our GIS Import tool went into the conversion from any coordinate system to WGS84. Not a trivial task.
